Always think about re-sale
I am getting ready to list a home for sale in Toluca Lake. The owners of the home removed the closet in what they are currently using as a master bedroom. They had a custom piece of furniture built that they use as their closet. The second bedroom is currently being used as an office with two desks and no bed. Although they are open to leaving the piece of furniture that was custom built, it isn't what most buyer's would consider an actual closet. It may have seemed like a good idea at the time but now that my client's are preparing to sell it's become a problem.
A few years ago I sold a home in the Glenoaks Canon area to some client's. When my clients remodeled the kitchen they decided to relocate their washer and dryer into the attached garage. You are probably thinking what's so bad about that right?? Well the access to the garage was via a very steep set of old wood stairs and the washer and dryer were all they way across to the far side of the garage. They actually consulted with me prior to the remodel and I suggested they install a full size stackable in the hall closet but they didn't listen. A few years later when they decided to sell the home it was back a huge drawback to buyer's.
I can't tell you the number of times I have seen homeowner's do something specific to their needs without thinking of the impact it will have later when they go to sell. When it come time to sell your home try to put yourself if a buyer's shoes oh and remember, listen to your REALTOR!!!
