This year I will be celebrating Mother's Day with my 75 year old Mom.  My Mom is not your average Mother.  She was a Los Angeles Police officer for 23 years.  Growing up the daughter of two Los Angeles police officers was anything but ordinary!  My Mom did not bake cookies for school functions in fact she didn't cook at all.  She went to work every day with a gun at her side and a no nonsense attitude to go with it. 

I remember wishing that she was more like the other Mother's that stayed home cooked for their families and attended PTA meetings.  Looking back I realize that, although she may not be like the other Mother's,  she did manage to set a good example for me.  She became a female police officer back in the day when it was not very common for women to do so.  Because she was bilingual she managed to climb up the ranks and worked as one of the first females assigned to a gang unit. She was a perfect example of what it means to work hard and reach for your dreams.
