Stuff

Years ago George Carilin did a great routine on "STUFF", click here to see the clip.  I get a kick out of it every time I watch it.   As a Glendale real estate agent this is a problem I have had to deal with numerous times.   Many of my clients are people that I have known since I was a kid.  They are home owners that have raised families in their home's.  Over the years they have managed to acquire a lot of stuff!  The tends to be a problem when it comes time to sell.

Five years ago I purchased a condo in Glendale for my elderly Mother to live in.  She had already downsized from our family home on Virginia Avenue but some how she managed to acquire a lot of stuff all over again.  It was a bit of a battle to get her to go through all of her stuff and get rid of things she no longer needed.

Yesterday I went to her house with my brother who is in town for the holidays.  We went over to do a little handyman work and some cleaning.  Much to my surprise she has once again managed to acquire MORE STUFF!  She saves magazines and all kinds of other stuff that she thinks she might have a use for some day.  Needless to say we once again had to get rid of more of her STUFF!

Here are a few tips for you:

Make it a point to go  through your closets at least once a year.

Don't let anybody (mainly your adult kids) ask you to store any of their STUFF!

The City of Glendale has a Bulky Item Pick Up service available to you.  Items may be put out the night before your regular collection day but no sooner than 7:00 p.m. All items must be placed out by 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection.  You need to call or go online to schedule a pick up.

If you have a lot of stuff to get rid of I recommend 1-800-Got-Junk I have not personally used them but several of my client's have.

Oh and last but not least as we wrap up the year, PLEASE TAKE DOWN YOUR CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!  This is another problem I have with clients who are getting ready to sell but have neighbors that have Christmas lights up months after the holiday.  FYI there is a city ordinance against having your lights up after the holiday.  Call Neighborhood Services to report a violation 818-548-3700.
