Happy 25th Anniversary To Me!
I just realized that this month marks the 25th anniversary of owning my home. I was only 19 years when I purchased it! I was working at Stevenson Dilbeck, as the office administrator at the Glendale office; I did not have my real estate license yet. I looked at several homes before I decided on mine. What were my prerequisites? A home in Glendale that I could afford- PERIOD! No special style or number of bedrooms and bathrooms. I simply wanted a home to call my own, that was all I asked for and I was happy to get it.
My home had been on the market for over a year. Did I care how long it had been on the market? Of course not, I had just entered the buyers market and what mattered to me was that it was a home that was affordable and suited my needs. We negotiated on the price, which was $124,000 and ended up paying $117,000.
I went from a $450 a month rent payment to a $1,234 a month house payment. Keep in mind that this was before people had to have a cup of Starbucks every morning, drive European cars, wear designer clothes and eat out every night. Yes we lived within our means, IMAGINE THAT! Some people would consider that quite BORING! I however was raised the old school way and my home is what I have to show for it!
